- Skinz member

The Skinz are a gang of white supremacists that appear in Manhunt.

Description[]

The Skinz are a group of Hunters comprised of white supremacists, white power skinheads, and Neo-Nazis, and are the second gang James Earl Cash encounters, after the Hoods. They patrol their Junkyard turf aggressively in small packs and brutally attack trespassers. The gang members wear traditional skinhead attire, including black shirts, camouflage pants, army boots, shaved heads, and suspenders. Many Skinz also wear hockey masks to intimidate their foes. Some of their hockey masks are painted to resemble the Confederate battle flag. They also wear clothing and armbands that are covered with mock Nazi Party symbols resembling the Odal rune (ᛟ).

Skinz members can be heard swearing allegiance to the Aryan Brotherhood, spouting off extremist and fundamentalist views and expressing hatred towards other races. Several of the Skinz talk to themselves about wanting to make their dead fathers proud of them.

The Skinz believe that Cash is a mixed-race "mud blood" or "half-breed", and hunt aggressively for him, although this may have been a lie told to them by Ramirez or Starkweather to give them further motivation to kill Cash. Many of the Skinz are also violently sadistic, having joined the hunt for the chance to kill. The vast majority of Skinz members are armed with Metal Baseball Bats, though they do have some Nail Guns, and rarely the Knife, but lack actual firearms. Compared to the Hoods whom Cash faced previously, the Skinz are better equipped and are more willing to work together. However, although ruthless, this gang is still less organized than the Innocentz, Wardogs, and Smileys, and are rather cowardly, especially when they are getting beaten or when they are knocked down, they often beg for Cash to not kill them.

Trivia[]

  • A Skinz member is featured on the front box art of Manhunt.
  • The Skinz were originally planned to appear in Mouth of Madness, but were cut in place of the Smileys.
  • Some of the Skinz have NPFO tattooed on their heads, and some wear shirts with NPFO written on it. This may be a reference to the Dead Kennedys song "Nazi Punks Fuck Off!". Others have shirts reading "First To Go" (a recurring lyric in the song). The words "FUCK OFF," painted or possibly tattooed on the chests of some of the Skinz may also reference the song. This is ironic since the Dead Kennedys are actively against skinheads/Neo-Nazis in reality, and the song "Nazi Punks Fuck Off" was intended to repel the large skinhead fanbase the band had early in their career by saying they'd be the first to die if a fourth reich ever came to be. In a somewhat similar, ironic appearance, the Skinz member with the blue shirt has yellow bootlaces. However, in skinhead culture, it is common for yellow bootlaces to be worn by anti-racist skinheads.
  • Cash's beta design and to a degree his final appearance bare a close resemblance to the bald members of the Skinz.
  • There is an actual gang called the La Mirada Punks, whose racial motto is ironically "Fuelled by Hate". The Skinz model with the black T-shirt, urban camo pants, and goatee bears resemblance to American History X protagonist Derek Vinyard, who is a former Neo-Nazi skinhead leader.
  • One of the "fat" Skinz members seems to be Christian, but his beliefs also seem to be twisted to suit their supremacist views. This is evidenced by lines such as "Show yourself, and let the Lord rest you of your burden" and "Your fear is His fear: The Devil!"
    • This interpretation of Christianity is based on the Christian Identity, a corrupt group that believes that only Germanic, Anglo-Saxon, Celtic, Nordic, Aryan people and people of kindred blood are the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and are therefore the descendants of the ancient Israelites. They also believe that all non-whites (people who are not of wholly European descent) will either be exterminated or enslaved in order to serve the white race in the new Heavenly Kingdom on Earth under the reign of Jesus Christ. Its doctrine states that only "Adamic" (white) people can achieve salvation and enter paradise.
  • Starkweather appears to have a strong dislike for this gang due to their racism, encouraging Cash to brutally kill them more than the other gangs. In Fuelled by Hate, he tells Cash to butcher them because they blame everyone else for their own inadequacies and refers to their members as "Bigots" and "Dumb-assed supremacist bastards". When Cash kills some of their members, Starkweather can be heard saying "Well that's some of those bigots shut up forever", "You've wiped these backwards assholes out; I take my hat off to you boy", "Not a white boy left standing, you're a credit to our tolerant society".
    • Ramirez also seems to dislike the Skinz as well, calling them "Lip dicked faggots" in the opening cutscene of White Trash. He even kills one member of the gang by breaking his neck after said member walks up to his face, seemingly trying to challenge him.
  • While a lot of the Skinz seem to dislike their fathers, one member in particular shows hatred towards his father for abusing him physically and mentally, and possibly traumatized said gang member as when pleading for his life he says "I'm sorry, Pa!". One also appears to dislike his mother stating "You deserved it, pa, but that don't make ma no bars o' dirt neither."
  • Not counting the bonus level Brawl Game, a total of 45 Skinz members exist in Manhunt. Cash kills 44 of them and Ramirez kills one in the opening cutscene of White Trash.
  • There is a common misconception that Mr. Nasty is a member or the leader of the Skinz. However, this would not be possible, because the Skinz member that is to the left of Mr. Nasty's tag line at the end of the instruction booklet is an existing Skinz ped. Also, Mr. Nasty would not be a member of one of the several gangs, as he is the distributor - distributors do not act in films, which suggests he would not "act" in Starkweather's films.
  • The Skinz have two Nordic runes as part of their faction, the othala rune and wolfsangel rune which were both adopted by the nazis during their reign. The othala rune represents inheritance, tradition, and persistence. The wolfsangel rune was based on wolf traps and they were believed to ward off wolves.
  • Despite appearing on the cover of Manhunt and arguably is one of the most recognizable gangs to appear in the game, the Skinz only have two story missions to their name, which is one less than most other gangs, and ties them with the S.W.A.T as the gangs with the least amount of mission appearances in the storyline. Unlike S.W.A.T, however, the Skinz do appear in one bonus scene which technically does put them slightly ahead of S.W.A.T, though it is not canon.
