"Cash, I made you!"
- Starkweather

Deliverance is the 20th and final mission in Manhunt, where James Earl Cash prepares to finally confront Lionel Starkweather once and for all, but he is interrupted by the deadly Piggsy, who is on a rampage.

Mission[]

Cash is in the elevator on his way to Starkweather's office when he's suddenly ambushed by Piggsy, who tries to cut his way inside with a lethal Chainsaw. He panics and quickly climbs through the vent in the roof, accidentally dropping his Assault Rifle (and other weapons), and finds himself unarmed in the derelict upper floors of the Estate.

Cash and Piggsy hunting for each other

Piggsy himself then begins to search for James Earl Cash, resulting in the two snuff film stars clashing at each other. Despite the insane, naked Chainsaw-wielding man's near-invulnerability, Cash sneaks around and tries to execute the Piggsy with two Glass Shards and a Wooden Spike, but it only wounds him.

Piggsy then tries to escape and cuts through a door, and goes back to his room in the attic as Cash follows. Piggsy then chases him again up to the top floor, right outside Starkweather's office, where he tricks Piggsy into standing on a metal grid on the floor. The grid shakes and he runs back to his room, again.

Discovering a weakness he needed to help kill him, Cash lures Piggsy once again onto the grid, but this time it gives way and breaks under his weight. Piggsy manages to grab onto the ledge as it collapses, but drops his chainsaw. Cash calmly picks it up and stands over him for a few seconds before sawing his arms off, defeating Piggsy and ultimately causing him to fall to his death.

"Send him to Hell! Go on!"

With his most dangerous obstacle cleared, Cash then attempts to use Piggsy's chainsaw to open the locked door to Starkweather's office, where some last few remaining Cerberus are waiting under Starkweather's command. He runs back into the attic to hide and then kills the Cerberus. Once they are all dead, Cash cuts through the door to Starkweather's office again and enters, catching him by surprise and falls to the floor.

A startled Starkweather pulls out a Revolver and starts shooting at Cash in a last-ditch attempt to kill him, but fails when Cash himself chases him around the office before fatally cutting his stomach open and spilling his guts. Starkweather begs for mercy, saying "Cash, I made you!". But Cash, not buying his futile plea, violently drives the chainsaw into his face, finally killing him at last. He then leaves it lodged in Starkweather's back, and the game ends with the final cutscene showing Starkweather's snuff ring being discovered by the police in a new coverage by the Journalist, but James Earl Cash himself is nowhere to be found (though is finally free since his quest is over).

Trivia[]

  • Fitting for being the final level of Manhunt, this scene is arguably the most infamous among the series community, due to the presence of Piggsy and many unsuspecting players were caught off-guard by his sudden charge whenever Cash walks towards one of the corners of the main hallway to encounter him.
  • The area where Piggsy's corpse falls, which was the lowest floor in the previous level where the elevator's motor had to be turned on, is programmed to automatically fail the mission if touched. This is most likely because the area was meant to only be reached if Cash was to accidentally fall to his death, therefore the intention by the developers was to cut the death scene shorter and immediately give a Game Over, so the player could restart quickly. This is evident by how the Scene Failed screen will automatically show even if the player uses a trainer to pass over the walls and attempt to walk there normally, or intentionally falling into the area with the God Mode cheat enabled.
  • The scene takes place in the upper floors of Starkweather's Estate.
  • The mission's title, "Deliverance", comes from the 1972 film of the same name, which includes an infamous scene where a psychotic redneck tells the main character to "squeal like a pig".
    • It is also a nod to Piggsy, since he indeed does squeal like a pig, himself.
  • In the final confrontation, Starkweather will sometimes say to Cash: "I made you!". In Manhunt 2, Leo Kasper uses the same words in the final cutscene of Personality Clash, which he met a similar fate in the hands of Daniel Lamb.
  • This is the only mission in Manhunt where more than one antagonist is confronted.
  • This is the only appearance of the Wooden Spike in Manhunt.
    Manhunt Piggsy injured

Piggsy wounded and covering his side

  • When Piggsy becomes crippled by Cash after the three Green Class weapon execution attempts, he can be seen crouching in pain, covering his right side. Although he technically only been stabbed at the back, there were executions in the beta version of the game showing Cash harming Piggsy in this area. This may be a developer oversight.
  • The boss fight against Piggsy in this mission is notable for being the opposite compared to the other antagonists including Starkweather himself, where in those cases James Earl Cash is the one chasing them to kill them. But for Piggsy, Cash himself is on the run. In addition, Piggsy himself, unlike all other enemies, cannot be harmed by normal means, as only executions are effective.
  • Starkweather's office layout is similar to the final room in Daniel's mind during Release Therapy in Manhunt 2.
  • This is the level with the least amount of Hunters, with only 7 included. It has five Cerberus, as well as Piggsy and Starkweather. The scene with the second least amount is Born Again, having 8 Hunters.
  • The Wire was originally planned to be used against Piggsy but was cut.
  • Despite being the main antagonist of the game and is heard throughout most of Manhunt, Lionel Starkweather is only seen in person at the very end of this mission.
  • Considering Cash accidentally loses his Assault Rifle in the opening cutscene, if the Fully Equipped cheat is enabled, he will seemingly retrieve it back.
  • Be very careful when killing Piggsy, as a glitch will sometimes occur when playing his death cutscene and having Cash stand too close to the edge, often triggering when the player runs towards him as it happens. Once Piggsy is falling, Cash will also be shown falling to his death with him, while still depicting it in cutscene form. If this glitch happens, the game will give the option to continue or quit like usual; unfortunately, they cannot be selected as the game is now frozen, requiring the player to reset the system. The sure way to avoid this is to simply stand still as Piggsy comes to the grid the second time.

The animation of Piggsy being prematurely executed by Cash's Chainsaw

  • The Chainsaw can be obtained prematurely by the use of trainers:
    • If Cash equips the Chainsaw and is seen by Piggsy, he will ironically run away from Cash.
    • If the player attempts to execute Piggsy with the Chainsaw, the animation of Cash killing Starkweather will play from behind, thus will immediately end the game. The reason this occurs is the level is scripted to end once this animation is over and due to Piggsy himself sharing the same special body type as Starkweather (both are the final bosses of Manhunt).
    • The player is able to attack Piggsy with the Chainsaw. However, even with the Chainsaw it is virtually impossible to kill him with it. There is still, however, a slight bit of a chance to successfully damage and potentially kill Piggsy with this weapon, though this could be a glitch.
    • The first locked door cannot be unlocked even with the Chainsaw; It requires the player to kill Piggsy first before proceeding.
    • If you're able to obtain a firearm via the Fully Equipped cheat, specifically the Assault Rifle, you can kill Piggsy immediately in one headshot and steal his Chainsaw.
  • The Revolver is also obtainable using trainers.
    • It takes only one shot to the head to kill Piggsy, though firing at his body is ineffective.
    • If the player attempts to shoot and kill Starkweather in the head, the game will crash, since it is scripted for the player to execute him with the Chainsaw.
    • The last locked door can be opened by shooting the knob. A glitch occurs where Cash is holding the Revolver like a Chainsaw and chainsaw sound effects can be heard.
  • There are three slightly different models for the Chainsaw: one that Piggsy uses, one that Cash uses, and one that is used in cutscenes.
  • This is the only story scene that does not feature a Can, not even via trainers, and one of the two scenes altogether that does not feature a Can. The other is Hard as Nails.
  • Due to a programming bug, the Chainsaw revs non-stop during the finale execution of Starkweather in the original PS2/Xbox releases (or completely silent when performed the traditional way). This is fixed in the PC version and re-releases.
